Fabiola Ferrero

Venezuela: The wells run dry

Fabiola Ferrero is a journalist and photographer born in Caracas in 1991.

Her personal work is the result of the contrast between her childhood memories and her native Venezuela. Using her training in writing and investigative journalism, which she studied in Caracas (UCAB), she develops long-term visual projects in South America, with a particular focus on the crisis in Venezuela. Her educational background in photography includes the Joop Swart Masterclass 2019 and the Eddie Adams Workshop.

She was a member of the jury for the World Press Photo 2022 South America region competition and a Magnum Foundation Social Justice Fellowship recipient in 2018. Keen to offer opportunities to other photographers newly arrived in the region, Fabiola founded Semillero Migrante in 2021, a mentoring program around migration. Her awards include the Inge Morath Prize, the 6Mois Photojournalism Award and the Getty Images Editorial Fellowship, as well as being a finalist for the Alexia Grant, the Eugene Smith Memorial Fund and the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award.

In addition to developing independent investigations in Latin America, her work has been featured in TIME, The New York Times, National Geographic, M Magazine, Le Monde, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Business Week, among others.
