Spasibo

At the chapelle des Beaux-Arts de Paris is hedl the exhibition “Spasibo” (“Thank you”, in Russian), by Davide Monteleone, winner of the 2012 Carmignac Foundation photojournalism prize. This work by the Italian photographer explores post-war Chechnya, showing the face of the “normalcy” imposed by dictator Ramzan Kadyrov. The large black-and-white prints show a Grozny that has concealed its wounds, the forests and mountains that remain symbols of rebellion, and the place of women in this society forced to compromise. An in-depth, multi-layered report that bears witness to the suffocation of a society and a country.
